My view, hopefully, whenever I’m not reading. Photo: Jeremy Bishop

As you read this, I am deeply and profoundly OOO. I’ve hopped on a plane for a vacation of ocean, sun, and salty skin. That means it’ll be crickets from me on the newsletter front all of this week.

I leave you with some links and the handful of books that I’ve brought with me: Headshot by Rita Bullwinkel, Martyr by Kaveh Akbar, Here After by Amy Lin, and Memorial Drive by Natasha Trethewey.

I always bring more books on vacation than I can possibly read. Feel free to tempt me with yet more options.

To the links…

A quote from the poet Hanif Abdurraqib that’s been strumming my heart all week: “We are all certainly going to die, but we are not dead yet. And, so, since we are not dead yet, have you ever considered the sunset?”

I watched Strange Way of Life and my conclusion is that I will happily watch Pedro Pascal do anything, including starring in what pretty much amounts to a commercial for Yves Saint Laurent.

Peggy Orenstein writes about the rise in sexual strangulation, or choking, a practice that many experienced BDSM practitioners warn is too dangerous to do safely.

A woman was slut-shamed in the courtroom and now her case has implications for “the rights of women and queer people everywhere,” reports Neda Toloui-Semnani.

Amanda Montei
asks in the New York Times Magazine if a sexless marriage can be a happy one. “While some are questioning the standard of monogamous sex in marriage by exploring polyamorous and open relationships, others are pushing back against the pressure to have sex at all,” she writes.
