Alison Brie and Dave Franco, a real-life couple, are starring in a new body-horror film and, wow, is it ripe for analysis. Without giving too much away, some supernatural shit happens and these two people—already on the rocks as a couple—end up literally fused together.
A metaphor for domesticity, codependency, the coercions of the traditional romantic fantasy, perhaps?
Word is there is also a very shocking sex scene that involves them getting temporarily stuck together. In preparation, we should all probably read Barbara Creed’s feminist film-theory classic, The Monstrous Feminine, which argues that “the prototype of all definitions of the monstrous is the female reproductive body.”
