Thanks for laying it out so clearly. It's so cringy for me to remember listening to his song and liking it and him; I'm so glad she's finally getting to speak for herself.

And now *NSYNC is getting back together! It’ll be interesting to see whether or not all this is swept under the rug.

I know for sure I won't be able to stomach him in anything ever again.

Same. I think he was already pretty ruined for me but the deep dive that I just did on his shitty moments (so many more than are mentioned here!) totally changed that.

Absolutely. I hadn't tracked all those things at the time, and they're disgusting. Thanks for doing and sharing some of the deep dive. And really just framing everything about her career the way you did, it's a helpful updating of my understanding of all of that. Even as someone who went to a women's college and thought of myself as attuned to misogyny, I was...charmed by him, or something? It's humbling, and also heartening that we can update how we understand what went down and try to resist the cycle as they repeat.

I’m not at all surprised by this story, he has been heinous in the aftermath of his relationship with Britney Spears. I loved her early albums and Justin Timberlake is trash. I’m glad she is getting to tell her story now. In light of her sister having a baby as a teenager, I feel more saddened reading she felt coerced into a decision about ending her pregnancy.

What a great piece. The whole thing is heartbreaking.

Timberlake makes me cringe, but he probably isn't a worse guy than most. The disrespect, the joking about a former sexual partner in public, the twisting of a misogynist narrative for some dude's own gain was - is still - such a dominent feature of our culture. Calling Timberlake on it helps - I think we all are OVER it and it's nice to have the words to express what's disgusting here.

Agreed, sadly! I hope that the collective experience of recognizing and dissecting this stuff in such a public/famous case helps us all to identify it in the day-to-day and individual manifestations.
